Hundreds of people are expected to take part in a charity car drive this weekend to support the family of a teenager who died in Port Lincoln at the weekend.

The community was shocked after the death of Patrick Ryan, 16 on Sunday. Police are investigating the matter.

Some of Patrick's friends and family have come together to organise a charity drive called Car Cruise for Patty to raise money to support the family.

Cars will meet at Dorward Oval at North Shields from 10am for a 10.45am start and will see participants travel to Tumby Bay, Cummins and Coffin Bay.

There is a $20 entry per car with donation tins available throughout the drive. All money raised will go to Patrick's family.

Event organiser Kodee Spry said on Facebook nearly 250 people had said they would take part with about 350 saying they were interested. "It is pretty good to see the community rally around one family who deserve the best," he said. Patrick's brother Ben Chalmers will lead the cruise and said the family was still coming to terms with the sudden loss.

He said it was encouraging to see so much support already shown from the community.

"It goes straight to the heart to see people willing to come together for the cause," he said.

Kodee said the event was open to anybody and there would be plenty of spare seats for anyone wanting to come along for the drive.

"Come out to show support for a life gone too soon. As a small community it is what we need," he said.

"Any car, four-wheel-drive, bike, we welcome any motor vehicle and anyone, if they don't have a seat then we'll find one for them."

A police spokesperson said a report was being prepared for the Coroner.
