Local artist Vicki Sanderson has earned this year's Port Lincoln Art Group People's Choice Award from the Bendigo Bank 2020 Port Lincoln Art Prize exhibition.

Votes for the award were open from the exhibition's opening on January 9 and closed at the end of the exhibition on February 15.

Ms Sanderson's painting 'Eternal Breath, Infinite Exhale, the Quiet Roar of Bone and Breath' was chosen as the winner of the $500 prize.

The painting depicts a 3.5 to 4m swell coming in at Greenly Beach, near Coulta.

She said the painting was done off-and-on over three years and was a tribute to her late father, John Sanderson.

"We grew up fishing and spending every holiday around the water," she said.

This was the second time Ms Sanderson has won the People's Choice, having won for 'Mauna' three years ago.

This was the first year the art group has sponsored the award.

President Jenny Growden said Ms Sanderson showed her ability to connect with people through her painting.

"Winning this award says much about the ability of Vicki to strike a chord with people viewing her work," she said.

"Being able to do this is no mean feat."
