Port Lincoln Times Flashback Friday: 1975 | GALLERY

It is time to once again escape the present and enjoy a look back at the past with this week's Port Lincoln Times Flashback Friday gallery.

This week we go back 45 years to see who featured in the pages of the Port Lincoln Times in May, 1975.

Included in this gallery are photos of a royal visit as Princess Anne came to Port Lincoln alongside then husband Captain Mark Phillips.

Do you recognise anyone featured in this week's gallery? Do you see any relatives, friends or well-known local identities?

In 1975 Gough Whitlam was Australia's Prime Minister until November when he was dismissed by Governor General Sir John Kerr, after which Malcolm Fraser became Prime Minister.

It was the year the Australian classic movie 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' was released.

In football North Melbourne, the only team without a flag at that point, finally won their first VFL premiership defeating Hawthorn by 55 points in the grand final.

In the SANFL Glenelg kicked the record highest score for a major football league, scoring 49.23 (317) defeating Central District 11.13 (79) on August 23, but would fall short in the grand final losing to Norwood 7.10 (52) to 9.10 (64).
