The recognition like the wines just keeps getting better at Peter Teakle Wines.
The Peter Teakle 2018 Estate Merlot is the only Merlot featured in the new release of the James Halliday Wine Companion Cellaring Selections alongside its Shiraz, both receiving more than 90 points.
The 2018 Estate Merlot was awarded 93 points with the judging panel calling it, "an elegant wine that has been able to absorb the high oak level".
The hand-picked 2017 Estate Shiraz received 94 points from the judging panel who described it as, "the medium to full-bodied palate offers dark/black fruits in profusion, then backs off on the airy finish. It all works well."
Chief Winemaker Liz Heidenreich said the team at Peter Teakle Wines had long believed that this region and vineyards could produce excellent wines.
"Having these points awarded by James Halliday helps us introduce the region to more people and let the discover this for themselves," Liz said.
"I am sure they won't be disappointed. Credit also needs to go to Andrew Blackberry, our vineyard manager who has transformed these vineyards into premium, high quality producing vines."
Ben Teakle said the team was very proud to showcase what the region could produce and believed with the addition of the scores of 94 points for their 2017 Estate Riesling and 90 points for the 2017 Estate Sauvignon Blanc Semillon it contributed to a compelling case for the Eyre Peninsula to be recognised as a wine region in South Australia.
"Our new multi-million dollar crushing facility situated on the Peter Teakle Wines site on Whillas Road is now operational allowing grapes grown on the Eyre Peninsula to be crushed directly after picking instead of being transported elsewhere," Ben said.
"We have the right combination of elevation, rich soil, moderate summer temperatures and maritime breezes, to continue to impress and excite wine drinkers across Australia."
Peter Teakle Wines was launched in 2017 after Peter purchased the former Delacolline Winery Estate early in 2016.

"In July we were delighted to announce the 2017 Estate Riesling was awarded 94 points in the Halliday Wine Companion. At the 2019 Small Winemakers Show our 2019 Estate Riesling won a Silver Medal and our 2017 Estate Sauvignon Blanc Semillon was given Bronze Medal," Ben said.
