Port Lincoln golf sees more big fields


Another big field with 102 men and 11 ladies, including three visitors, from Darke Peak, Port Neill and Coffin Bay clubs. The men played for their Monthly Medal and the final round of the Captain's Trophy, played over two rounds. The daily sponsors were Cafe Chinos, and the weather was conducive to good scoring.

The monthly medals were won by Dylan Bell with 73 off the stick from his scratch handicap, over his father Simon, also on scratch. Andrew Tiller won B grade with 85 off the stick and Dylan Vonderwall scored 86 gross to win C grade. Taylor Ford won the Captain's Trophy from Dylan Vonderwall.

In the Handicap sections, Taylor Ford won A grade with nett 68 from Chas Chambers 69. Bill Healey won B grade with 71 from Graeme Charlton 72, and Dylan Vonderwall rounded out a good day by winning C grade with 67 (score of the day) from veteran Kevin Reidy 71.

Run-downs went to Ben Abley 69, Haydn Myers and Grant Bamber 70, Ryan Cottrell, Don Henson and John Strycharski 71 and Mike Freeman and Andrew Tiller on 72 nett. The Ladies' event was won by Val Sharrad 74 on a countback from Lyn Hosking.

Fourteen players also won club vouchers for scoring birdies on the par-three holes; Ben Abley, Don Henson, Bill Healey, Dylan Bell, Shaun Thomas, Simon Bell, Adam Davies, James Blewit, Brock Wise, Greg Cotton, Brett Davies, Guy Bagshaw and Jason Verhees.


In perfect weather 16 ladies played a par competition, sponsored by Pizzeria Trieste and Bradford Constructions. In the winners' circle were Helen George, who came in square, from Elaine Thring one down. Rundowns went to Sue Bishop -2 and Val Sharrad -3.


A good field of 73 men played their mid-week Stableford in sublime conditions, including a visitor from Grange. The sponsors were Spot On Fishing and Camping and Kemp Real Estate.

Simon Bell continues his good form with 39 points from his 1 handicap, winning from Warren Rosman 37 in A grade. Geoff Nottle was B grade winner with 38 points, from Graeme Dyke on 35.

Bob Sorensen earned score of the day with 40 points, over Kevin Reidy on 38. Rundowns went to Cliff Taylor 38, Dan Townsend 37, Daryl Evans 36, Tim Robinson 35, Tony Dragun 33 and Brian Smith 32.

Nine players all had birdies on the par-three holes; they were Simon Bell, Chris Brooks, Ben Sellen, Taylor Ford, Matt Parker, Graeme Dyke, Andy Smith, Bob Sorensen and Cliff Taylor.


Sunday Stableford attracted 18 men, with Ashley Durdin winning with 37 points, from Brett Davies 34, on a countback from Peter Schaefer. Best of the four ladies was Lyn Hosking with 30.
