BREAKFAST: Port Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and Tourism members Carly Valcic (promotions and marketing), Jack Ritchie (chairperson) and Fran Huber (secretary) enjoyed the messages shared at the SA's Biggest Mentally Healthy Business Breakfast.

Port Lincoln business owners joined others across the state in learning how to create a more mentally healthy business environment in a statewide event on Wednesday morning.

Port Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and Tourism hosted an event at the Port Lincoln Hotel as part of SA's Biggest Mentally Healthy Business Breakfast.

Organised by Business SA and held across 10 simultaneous sites linked together online, the business breakfast involved panel discussions and presentations on the importance of mental health in the workplace.

Guest speakers and panelists included 2020 Australian of the Year James Muecke, Sturt's 2016 Magarey Medallist Zane Kirkwood and Dr Kate Gunn from ifarmwell.

Chamber of Commerce chairperson Jack Ritchie said the Port Lincoln event had the maximum of 25 people attend, made up of chamber members and local business representatives.

Mr Ritchie said a clear message gained from the event was you can improve mental health by focusing on the present, rather than the past or the future.

He said this had been a difficult year for businesses locally and across the state, with many still feeling the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The upside is that there has been a lot more people speaking about mental health issues and there's been a lot more engagement in that, and there's now an opportunity to build on that," he said.

The livestream of the event is available on the Business SA Facebook page.
