Port Lincoln Times Flashback Friday: 1986 | GALLERY

It is time for another Flashback Friday gallery where we take a look back at past editions of the Port Lincoln Times and the people who made the news back in the day.

This week we go back 34 years to see who made the news throughout September, 1986.

Can you recognise any of the people who feature in this week's gallery?

This was the year South Australia celebrated 150th anniversary of its founding.

Anyone who has watched the HBO miniseries Chernobyl would know 1986 as the year of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in what is now modern day Ukraine.

This was the year of the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland with Australia finishing third in the medal tally behind England and Canada with 40 gold, 46 silver and 35 bronze.

Before last year's premiership win 1986 was the last time Glenelg tasted SANFL glory when they defeated North Adelaide by 48 points, closer to home another team of Tigers bested some Roosters to win their first premiership.

NOTE: This gallery may contain images of deceased Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander persons and may cause distress to those communities.

Start the week with a look at some of the big headlines from across the Lower Eyre Peninsula. Sign up today for the weekly Port Lincoln Times newsletter.
