Port Lincoln trainer Des Courtney will be looking to continue his recent 'Giant Killing' run of success when Relaxed shoots for three wins in a row at the Port Lincoln twilight races on Friday.
Courtney won Saturdays Ceduna Cup with Givepeace A Chance and the stable has had 4 winners from the last 13 runners.
Five-year-old gelding Givepeace A Chance, who's only career win prior was a modest maiden at Pakenham in 2019, upstaged his more fancied opponents to power away late and claim the Cup at double figure odds.
"He travelled well in the run and when they fanned on the home turn he got a nice run through and finished the race off strongly" Courtney said.
"He is looking for further still and we might have to look at a suitable race at Gawler or somewhere like that for him" he added.
Stablemate Relaxed has taken all before him in recent starts winning over 1390 meters at Benchmark 54 level at Port Lincoln on New Years Eve before making a handy field look second rate at his most recent outing winning by 5 lengths over 1750 meters on January 10.
"Last year the trip down here from NSW may have knocked him around a bit but he is going great this time in"
"His work has been really good"
This will be the acid test for the son of Lohnro as he jumps from Benchmark 58 level to taking on the regions best performed middle distance horses (Benchmark 80) but Courtney is confident his charge can be competitive over the 1960 meter trip.
"He was impressive last start and I think he can measure up to these better horses"
"He will need a good run in transit and a repeat of that effort however"
The stable will not race promising filly Brazen Head this week "There is no race for her this week, she is looking for a mile now and we will be patient and wait for the right race"
Final fields and race starting times will be declared on Wednesday. Entry is free.
