Eyre Peninsula's marquee horse race will take place this Friday and one local horse is ready to go from bridesmaid to the bride.

The MGA Insurance Brokers Port Lincoln Cup race day will take on Friday with 139 horses nominated with local cup hope Bramfield looking to go one better after finishing runner up the last two times.

Despite this Bramfield had gone on to win the past two Kimba Cups and had some races in Victoria followed by a seven week let up.

Trainer Darryl Carrison, who had won the cup twice with Hastein and once with Front Beach, said he expected the mare to appreciate the extra furlong following the Cup Prelude on February 21 where she ran fourth.

He said the race distance suited Bramfield, having placed three times over this distance including once in a metropolitan race, and was sure she could finally get the elusive cup win.

"We're hoping she can go one better this time," he said.

"She's got a great bunch of owners and the original breeder (Gerald Schlink) has passed away so this would be a great honour (to him)."

Bramfield will not be the only horse to look out for as the race is expected to once again have a big field of challengers, including last year's winner Dexter You Devil who has been nominated.

Port Lincoln Racing Club president Greg Fitzgerald said the Port Lincoln Cup race day would look different compared to past years due to COVID-19 restrictions and requirements, but the club was happy to be able to put on a race meeting and provide facilities and hospitality for patrons, with support from many local businesses.

"Fashion at the Races is on again with more than $2000 in prizes provided by Port Lincoln businesses which is very much appreciated," he said.

"This is the seventh consecutive year MGA Insurance Brokers has sponsored the race and it's absolutely fantastic to get support from a business organisation like MGA."
