The Eyre Peninsula Community Foundation (EPCF) has distributed $24,400 in Back to School Vouchers for students across Eyre Peninsula.

Additional donations of $2200 received by the foundation and its funding partner the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) saw this month's original $20,000 funding increased.

A donor from Port Lincoln said they appreciated the work the foundation did in making a small difference for many people and places.

"The foundation's initiative to source matched funding for Back to School Vouchers is a real opportunity for all of us to make a huge difference for those children in Port Lincoln who need and deserve a positive start to their learning experience," they said.

Since its inception in 2009, in partnership with FRRR, the foundation has distributed more than $240,000 in Back to School Vouchers, in the form of a $50 Target card to assist families across Eyre Peninsula in purchasing school items such as uniforms, school bags and stationery for their children.

EPCF chairperson Garry Downey noted the 2021 program highlighted a much greater need for help with basic school equipment than the support the foundation program currently receives.

However, he said local communities could support their school families by donating specifically to the Back to School Vouchers program, with any funds being matched to double their impact locally above the normal distribution.

He said EPCF also encouraged public donations for this purpose.

Mr Downey also acknowledged the support of school principals and governing councils with the success of the Back to School program.

The foundation carefully manages a growing base of donated funds and works with philanthropic and other partners to ensure the best possible value and impact from each of its community projects, regional student advancement and home hospice services on Eyre Peninsula.
