Grassfire burns many hectares

Firefighters from across Lower Eyre Peninsula responded to control a grass fire near Mount Drummond on Friday.

At about 2.20pm CFS firefighters responded following reports of a fire west of Mount Drummond which was heading into a paddock.

About 12 appliances responded to the incident including firetrucks from Kapinnie, Cummins, Coffin Bay, Karkoo, Wanilla, Koppio, Mount Hope and Lincoln brigades as well as the Lower Eyre bulk water carrier.

Firefighters worked over the next few hours to extinguish the fire and finally managed to bring the blaze under control before 7.30pm that evening.

About 150 hectares were burnt, however no assets were damaged from the fire.

The CFS believes the fire was started from farm machinery.
