Port Lincoln Times Flashback Friday: 1994 | GALLERY

It's Friday again and for readers of the Port Lincoln Times that means one thing, it's time for another Port Lincoln Times Flashback Friday where we feature images and people who featured in past editions.

For this week's gallery we are going back to the mid 1990s to see who appeared in the pages of the Port Lincoln Times throughout May, 1994.

Who can you recognise amongst this week's photos?

In 1994 Paul Keating was Prime Minister while Alexander Downer replaced John Hewson as opposition leader during a leadership spill in May, however he would eventually resign in January the following year and replaced by eventual Prime Minister John Howard.

Australian cinema saw the release of two local classics, Muriel's Wedding and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert while on TV Blue Heelers premiered while Mother and Son came to an end.

Australia also won its first ever Winter Olympics medal at Lillehammer, Norway with the men's 5000m short track speed skating relay team of Richard Nizielski, Andrew Murtha, Kieran Hansen and Steven Bradbury winning bronze.

Eight years later Bradbury would go on to win Australia's first ever Winter Olympics gold medal in the men's 1000m short track speed skating at Salt Lake City, USA.
