Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey was present to help officially open the new Ceduna Foreshore Playground at a community event on Sunday morning.
Mr Ramsey was joined by Ceduna mayor Perry Will, councillors and community members for the opening - after more than a week of locals and visitors enjoying the new facility on the Ceduna foreshore - which included a community sausage sizzle.
The playground was selected by the Ceduna District Council as one of its projects in the second round of the federal government's Drought Communities Program, with $300,000 allocated.
Mr Ramsey said at the opening the program recognised that drought affected more than the farmers within a community and that it was designed to keep money flowing through districts.
He thanked the council, Ceduna Foreshore Hotel Motel for their $200,000 contribution, and playground committee for their support in getting the project completed.
"It is good to see projects come to fruition in Ceduna," he said.
Mr Will said a major playground in Ceduna had been "talked about for many years" and he thanked all those involved for "bringing the idea to life".
Playground committee member Rhian Ashton said she was thrilled with the finished product.
"It is an amazing play space for the community to enjoy," she said.
