Southern Eyre Birds are holding a photographic exhibition at the Port Lincoln Library during the month of June.
There are about 70 species of birds of Lower Eyre Peninsula, the exhibition will feature most of them.
Some of the photographs are of the more common ones seen in and around Eyre Peninsula, as well as some more unusual ones, and the occasional visiting birds, which are not often seen on Lower Eyre Peninsula, and are of great interest to our members.
Southern Eyre Birds have a general meeting once every two months, the next one being June 9 at The Senior Citizens Hall in Hallett Place, at 7.30 pm.
Each general meeting, we have a guest speaker, also information on where birds have been seen, and any unusual bird sightings from around the area.
We have an outing on the third Sunday of every month, visiting a good variety of places, all members and visitors are most welcome.
In the warmer months, we have late afternoon outings, visiting localised sites, these are most popular.
The membership fees are just $20 for the year. Every year we endeavour to have a major guest speaker, from Adelaide, or interstate.
This year we hope to have Ian Falkenberg, who will talk to us on the banding of the eastern ospreys that nest in our area.
One of our last years chicks "Solly" also had a tracker attached to her and has made Streaky Bay her home.
We have produced a pocket bird guide "Birds of Southern Eyre Peninsula", which was updated a couple of years ago, featuring photos provided by members and general information on the bird and its habitat.
This book can be bought at The Book Bazaar, Visitor Information Centre and a couple of country locations, and is always on sale at our general meetings.
Photographers for this exhibition: Fran Solly, Christine Georgiou, Julie Lovegrove, Lesley Scarman, Pete Wilkins, Pam Hewstone, Michael Aird, Brian Gould and Colin Gill.
