THIS year's Bathurst 1000 has been postponed following challenges that have been presented by the ongoing Greater Sydney COVID-19 lockdown.

The Bathurst 1000 was set to take place over October 7 to 10 but according to details obtained by Speedcafe.com on Thursday morning that will no longer be the case.

The disruption to the Great Race is one of several changes that have come about to the back end of this year's Supercars calendar.

The Queensland Raceway round over August 21-22 has been scrapped and the series now looks set to resume at Winton Motor Raceway in early October.

From there the series will head to Phillip Island's Grand Prix Circuit and will likely race on the weekend now left open by the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix's cancellation (October 22-24).

Supercars will then make their way to Mount Panorama at some stage in November, and options are currently being explored for obtaining direct flights into the region to avoid travelling through Sydney.

The penultimate round will be held at Sydney Motorsport Park then the series will wrap up at the Gold Coast on the Surfers Paradise Street Circuit, held over December 3-5.

IN OTHER NEWS:

The trans-Tasman bubble's closure (currently set for September 18) means that the Auckland SuperSprint has been forced into cancellation.

That round was originally scheduled to take place over November 6 and 7.

The Perth SuperNight has also been cancelled due to similar risks with the Western Australian border.

According to Speedcafe's reports, it's expected the Western Australian round will be featuring somewhere in the opening half of the 2022 season.

Supercars are yet to put out an official statement regarding the expected changes to the calendar.
