Two Camera Club awards for Hockaday

Port Lincoln Camera Club members Bazz Hockaday and Janine Waters have won first prizes in the club's September competition for their photos 'Elegant Gull', 'Emu Drinking' and 'Peaceful Reflections'.

There were three themes to capture last month - the set subject was 'reflections', the special subject 'fauna', and an open subject.

Mr Hockaday came first in the special and open categories, while Ms Janine Waters won the prize for the set subject.

Behind Ms Waters in the set subject was Mr Hockaday for 'Great Egret' and John Taylor with 'Night Reflections'.

Second place in the special subject was another of Mr Hockaday's entries - 'Mum's Embrace' - and then Julie Lovegrove with 'I Know I am Special'.

The open subject saw Ms Lovegrove coming second for 'Taking a Break' and Lesley Scarman in third for 'Boarding'.

The judge gave very useful comments, with details on how certain photographs could be improved with only subtle editing or composition.

The winners were announced at the Port Lincoln Camera Club's general meeting on September 27, where Ross Allen, a keen photographer and recent Nautilus Arts Centre Galleries exhibitionist, gave advice to attendees.

Mr Allen's talk was most informative and his advice was that is anybody was considering holding an exhibition then they should just do it, as it was a rewarding experience.

During his early life he worked as a photographer's assistant, and also worked for National Parks.

Mr Allen's photographic journey was very inspirational, and his presentation was well received.

The Port Lincoln Camera Club are hosting a photography workshop on November 13 and 14, presented by John Hodgson - subjects to be covered will be architecture and still life.

The cost for club members will be $50 and $100 for non-members.
