In 2022 there will be the State and Federal elections and a major battleground will be health.

The Fleurieu Peninsula is in urgent need for more ambulances, paramedics and resources in the region's hospitals and it is a familiar cry all over the country.

The Federal Labor Party has acted and announced frontline healthcare worker Marisa Bell as its candidate for the seat of Mayo in the upcoming Federal Election.

Marisa Bell lives in Kangarilla.

Ms Bell has worked in the health system for her entire working life, currently as an intensive care nurse and nurse educator, and a proud member of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation.

With this experience comes a dedication to improving the health system and ensuring health services are accessible and affordable for all.

"Working in the health system as a frontline worker, I have experienced the stresses that the health system is under," Ms Bell said.

"I understand the need for better resources for mental health services. I care about our older residents who struggle to access home care and aged care support services that they need.

"COVID has presented significant challenges to our health care system. Nurses, doctors, support staff, and ambulance drivers in the frontline need our support, so they can deliver the care that the community needs in this uncertain time."

The daughter of Italian migrants who came to South Australia seeking a better life for their children, Ms Bell shares the love of culture, language, hard work and diversity that migrants bring to this country.

Ms Bell is also passionate about addressing climate change - not only to protect the environment and planet, but to transition to a safer, more diversified economy, that creates jobs for the future.

"Marisa knows better than most the stress placed on our health system and she has committed her whole life to helping people get the support they need," Senator Penny Wong said.

"Whether it's improving access to health services, delivering good, secure jobs for South Australians, taking action on climate change, or delivering the water promised to South Australians - Marisa would be an excellent representative for the people of Mayo."
