Port Lincoln Times Flashback Friday: 1969 | GALLERY

It's time to once again prepare for the weekend by enjoying a fond walk down memory lane through the Port Lincoln Times Flashback Friday gallery.

This week we will once again go back to the summer of '69 to feature photos that featured in the pages of the Port Lincoln Times throughout November and December, 1969.

Can you recognise anyone who featured in the pages of the Port Lincoln Times 52 years ago?

This year saw Prime Minister John Gorton re-elected against opposition leader Gough Whitlam in the 1969 Federal Election.

We saw in 2021 Australian boxer George Kambosos Jnr become world lightweight champion and in 1969 there was another Australian champion as Johnny Famechon became a world featherweight champion after defeating Cuban Jose Legra.

The Beatles were dominating the charts, including in Australia with hit songs like 'Come Together', 'Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da' and 'Get Back', while Elvis Presley had hits in 'Suspicious Minds', 'In the Ghetto' and 'If I Can Dream'.

NOTE: This gallery may contain images of deceased Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander persons and may cause distress to those communities.
