Port Lincoln sees plenty of golf action during New Year break

Players take to greens over New Year break


More than 100 players took part in a stableford competition, sponsored by Midsec Financial Advisors, with four visitors from Waikerie, Glenelg, Blackwood and Coffin Bay.

From the 88 men, Dylan Bell won A grade with 37 points from Greg Cotton 36. Cliff Taylor counted out Brenton Lees to win B Grade with 41 and the score of the day went to Jayden Blewit with 41 from Mitchell Danziv on 41.

Rundowns went to Wayne Smith 40, Mitchell Roberts and Chris Cottrell 38, and Andrew Dickie, Bob Sorenson, David Graetz and Rick Kolega, all on 36. Eighteen women played and the winner was Annette Schaefer with 40 points from Diana Laube on 38.


EP Cleaning Supplies sponsored the Men's mid-week competition, with 68 players including three visitors from Royal Adelaide, Waikerie and Coffin Bay.

Ash Durdin was A grade winner with 39 stableford points on a countback from Scott Lombe. George Mayhew won B grade with 38 from Kym Clarke 34, and Gavin Roberts took out C grade with 36 on a countback from Lindsay Gordon.

Rundowns went to Chris Baird 37, Brett Davies and Brian Smith on 36, Mike Freeman 35 and Boris Kovacic 33.

A good field of 24 women played a stableford competition, sponsored by Evoke. Kaye Jaensch won with 36 points from Deb Sykes 34 and rundowns awarded to Jacqui McNamara and Ally Russell 35, Adie Fraser 32 and Michelle Smith 31.


Twilight Golf was won by Ally Russell with a excellent 24 points for the 10 holes played, followed by Cody Marchesi with 21, there were 13 players.


Good scores from the public holiday mixed competition, with James Fuss on 42 winning on a countback from Broden Dennis. Rundowns went to Samuel Beare 38, Scott Lobme 37 and Juri Berzins 36. Visitors came from Waikerie and Bendigo golf clubs.


Mitchell Danzic won the day with 40 stableford points from Codey Marchesi on 37, with rundowns going to Ashley Durdin and Scott Lombe on 37.


Sixty one golfers played a stableford competition, sponsored by EP Cleaning Services. There were four visitors from Willunga, Waikerie, Flagstaff Hill and Copper Club golf clubs.

A grade winner was Rex Martin with 38 on a countback from Greg Barry, Andy Smith also won B grade on a countback from Kym Clarke, both with 35, and another countback in C grade had Broden Dennis on 35 winning from Samuel Beare.

The ladies' winner was Since Samba Manuel with 41, well ahead of runner-up Adie Fraser on 34. Rundowns went to Mike Freeman 38, Geoff Nottle and Shaun Thomas 37 and Scott Lombe 35.


Fourteen players were in a competition, sponsored by Port Lincoln Warehouse and EP Cleaning Services, won by Cynthia Thompson on 37 from Since Samba Manuel 38 and rundowns going to Helen George and Jinny Hussey on 35.


Eighty four players took part with eight visitors from Royal Adelaide, Tumby Bay, Waikerie, Glenelg, Port Pirie, Alice Springs and Copper Club golf clubs. Sponsors were Port Lincoln Food Warehouse and The Printing Press.

A grade winner was Clint Scharfe with 44 stableford points, from Scott Lombe 40. Rubin Thompson won B grade with 44 from George Mayhew 39, and Broden Dennis won C grade with 39 from Mark Rowett 37.

Rundowns went to Jason Verhees 40, Graeme Dyke 38, Haydn Myers 37 and Mick Hegarty, Mitchell Roberts and Samuel Beare, all on 36.


Twenty six players, with a visitor from Echunga Golf Club. Dabiel Brown won with 36 on countback from Ryan Cottrell. Rundowns went to Jacob Harvey 36 and Broden Dennis 34.


Twenty one played with one visitor from Blackwood Golf Club. Since Samba Manuel won on 39 from Liz Weatherspoon 37. Rundowns to Deb Sykes and Stephen Rees. also on 37.


Seventeen played with Cody Marchesi winning on 38 from George Mayhew 35. One visitor from Glenelg. Rundown to Adam Davies 34.


Christmas Day - no competition.


Fifteen played in a competition sponsored by Hunts Fuels and EP Cleaning Services. Carolyn Cocks won on 39 from Adie Fraser 37. Rundowns to Since Samba Manuel 35 and Rhondda Mayfield 34.


There were 66 players with three visitors from Marion Park, Alice Springs and Goulburn golf clubs. Sponsors were EP Pump Services.

Rex Bichard was A grade winner on 39 from Haydn Myers 38. B grade winner was Leon Newman 35 on countback from Peter Leahy.

C grade winner was James Fuss 39, from Robert Fox 36. Rundowns to visitor Max Boston and Chas Chambers 38, Ian Sellen 36, Chris Cottrell 35 and Aidab Sheehy 34.


Thirteen played, winner was Josh Hausler with 21 on a countback from Ben Abley.


There were 12 players, Liz Weatherspoon was winner with 38 from Ally Russell 37.


Jack Thompson has been nominated for a prestigious Australian golf honour, the Greg Norman Medal.
